TASMANIAN RIFLE ASSOCIATION INC.

TASMANIAN TARGET RIFLE GRADING SYSTEM
The TRA has decided to adopt the VRA Grading System for the 2011-12 Season. It was trialled for a year and adopted at the 2011 AGM of the TRA.
The NRAA decided to also adopt it at the 2011 AGM of the NRAA.
The system is different in that it only uses scores shot in Open Competition at Prize Meetings and Queens Prizes. Also scores from
ALL ranges are used, not just 300,500 and 600.
The NRAA will be running the same Grading System Nationally once it has established a system during 2012.

The system used for calculating the Grading System takes into account (to some degree) the weather conditions prevalent on any
particular day as well as the range difficulty - because all scores usually used for grading are directly related to
scores usually used for grading are directly related to THE TOP SCORE OF THE DAY irrespective of whether
it is recorded by an A or B or C Grader
Simply it is this --- ( say a 3 range shoot with 150 being the possible)

Shooter A scores---- 149 = 100% ( top score )
Shooter B scores-----149 =100% also
Shooter C scores-----148 = 99.32%-----------148/149 x 100 = 99.32%
Shooter D scores-----146 = 97.98%-----------146/149 x 100 = 97.98%
Shooter E scores-----143 = 95.97%-----------143/149 x 100 = 95.97%
And so on:-

We use the last 8 prize meeting scores to arrive at the final average which is the average of the last 8 scores. No cut outs.
If 8 Scores are not available, as many as are available are used.
If a B Grade shooter wins B Grade with a score higher than an A Grade average, THERE IS NO AUTOMATIC UPGRADE.
A shooter's grade always depends on the Average of the last 8 Scores
You may move from grade to grade, depending on your average

There are 4 columns of results above.
For an explanation of how results and gradings are calculated see below at the bottom of the page.
Column 1
This column shows the number of shoots used to calculate the Average Percentage. A maximum of the last
8 shoots is used. If there are not 8 shoots, as many as are available are used.
Column 2
This column shows the Average Percentage as calculated, using the Grading System. For a full explanation
of how this works, see the notes at the bottom of this page. This is upgraded after each competition.
Column 3
This Column shows Shooter's Grades using the NRAA Grading Cut-off points. These cut-off points are:-
A Grade - 97.5 and above
B Grade - 94.5 to 97.6
C Grade - 94.4 and below
Column 4
If Tasmania used the NRAA Grading cut-off points, there would only be 1 or 2 - A Grade shooters in the State.
To cater for this the cut-off points are adjusted so that there is a reasonable spread amongst Grades.
However, when Tasmanian Shooters compete against Interstate Shooters in events such as the Tasmanian
Queens, Tasmanian shooters would use the NRAA Grading Points to determine their grade.
The cut-off points for Tasmanian competition are:-
A Grade - 96.0 and above.
B Grade - 92.0 to 95.9
C Grade - 91.9 and below.
